I always try to keep my writing skills sharp by trying different things. And fan fiction is a great safe way to do that while still getting work in front of some eyes (and me getting some accolades). Video Game Memories #14: Super Metroid
Super Metroid (1994) Super Metroid was a game I almost didn’t get. I played the original Metroid once and I didn’t like it. The play control was clunky. The world was too complex. Maybe the free-roaming scared the little me. Maybe the graphics looked stupid – a little plastic toy jumping around. Granted this was one of Nintendo’s earlier achievements, but I liked games like Mario and Mega Man, where your goal was obvious and your path was direct. But Super Metroid was a popular game. Back to the Grindstone
Still no comments on FictionSlamming, and nothing new on Zoetrope. What’s the deal? Don’t you like me? Ah, well, it means nothing but keep grinding away. Galerians ain’t gonna write itself. Gotta keep plugging away. The format of the Galerians pre-writing is getting a vibe much like Heretic – lots of dynamic characters all hapahzardly thrown together. Hopefully that’s a good sign, because I really enjoyed that part of Heretic. I’m into revising the characters now. The problem with that is you never quite know how much history to add, whether it’ll be a waste or if it turns out to be a sudden revelation that turns the plot. The…
