    Daughter’s Parents Meeting for Soccer

So yesterday, I went to a parents meeting for soccer (for my youngest daughter). Usually my wife goes to these things, but since she’s regained a job, time is a precious commodity. And she hates these things because they’re so long and all the information is re-communicated in an e-mail anyway. So this time, I went as a favor to her. I came to the realization that I hate them too, but for different reasons. And going made me realize why I never participated in sports or competitive things. When I came home, I felt triggered. I hate to sound like a “woke” bleeding-heart liberal, but I’m a sensitive boy.…

    A D&D/Family Weekend

This weekend, we finally got to celebrate my birthday, after two weeks of having it pushed back due to two first communions, Mother’s Day, and various soccer/softball tournaments. Maybe that’s part of why I felt a little bitter in my last entry. But when I was asked what I wanted to do, I thought about some restaurant or event. But really, all I wanted to do, the thing I’ve most wanted to do with my family, is play D&D. I get so few chances to play, and my family is the closest available participants. Daughter’s Treasure Island

So I try to write about positive things as much as I can.  But as you know, it’s difficult.  It’s much easier to point out what’s wrong with something that what’s right with it.  Because what’s right, the good stuff, should be there by default.  We only notice when it’s not there.  But that makes positive memories hard to come by.  So I store them when I can. So I’m reading Treasure Island to my seven-year-old for bedtime these days.  It’s not the actual text, it’s an adapted version for… children?  Lazy readers?  People of the future who won’t know antiquated words?  Anyway, it’s this one.  Judge for yourself.  I’ll…

10 Things I Am Uncomfortable Talking About

    1. Writing: I’ve already talked about why I keep my writing on the down-low. It’s private, it’s personal, and at times it can be embarrassing. I want to keep my writing persona away from my work or family persona, because they are two different people. I don’t want people to confuse the art with the artist, but so many do. Ender’s Game is a superior novel, despite its author being not terribly tolerant. Eminem writes horribly disgusting lyrics, but no one can deny his Grammies. Sometimes I write stories where Link gives Malon anal in a tub of milk. 2. My Dad’s Death: I never really learned the proper way…
