Short stories: I’ve finished Fairy Kingdom and sent to to Flash Fiction Online. We just passed the min time for expecting a reply, so hopefully I should know something soon. Revising White Mage story was a pain in the ass, because of all the restructuring, and I’m wondering whether I improved the story or nerfed it. It feels like its less than it was now, but maybe that’s because there’s too much here for a short story. White Mage Story Update & “You Got Your Reality in my Fantasy!”
I have two questions for the audience today. I find myself in conflict with White Mage Story. The first is the ending – I’m finding it difficult to reconcile the message that I wanted to send, with the message that everyone received. It’s like playing telephone. I was trying to say something about “it doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you do it to the best of your ability”. Instead, people got “learn the value of what you do, rather than trying to change it”. I think a lot of people misinterpreted White Mage Story, which is my own fault. Healing Mage is On Critters
Healing Mage (White Mage Story) is up on Critters. I didn’t even realize it. I was like, that was fast. I’m not ready. I just had my last story critiqued just a few weeks ago. I’m still emotionally fragile, and I’m not even 1/3 through Black Hole Son. I was hoping to be done with BHS by the time my short stories were ready for revising. Fortunately, it seems to have garnered a very positive response so far, just from glancing at the e-mails. One person said they “absolutely loved it”, which makes me think this is still a good candidate for publication. And maybe a novel afterwards.

White Mage Story done
I’m done with the first draft of the White Mage story – go me for productivity! It’s been submitted to Critters under the title “Healing Mage”, because I thought I couldn’t call him a White Mage, I thought that was too close to Final Fantasy, although I hate the word Healing Mage. I should probably find a better word, but I like the concept of White Mage so much – it sounds right. Next up is trying to make Fairy Story into a flash fiction. Right now it sounds a little dry, as I’m basically turning the concept into the narrative. No dialogue, and not much setting. No revelations either.…

Current Update
I’ve finished with Vampire Family Story for now and submitted it to Critters. It really didn’t need a whole lot of restructuring, except for the first scene which still bothers me. There’s just no way to communicate all that information without telling. And I’m wondering how much of the gun I need to reveal in the first act for it to show up in the third, and not need to extend the story so much. It’s already at capacity, about 5,000 words. I need an objective opinion on it at this point. Now I’m working on White Mage Story, and its just a hoot. Again, needs condensing. I don’t know…

Killing Fairy Story
I’ve decided I hate Fairy Story. The back story is sound I think, but I hate everything else about it. I hate the characters, I hate the story – it’s too girly, antithetical to my style. I hate that I can’t make it work – I can’t make it plausible that fairies have been existing in our world with no one knowing it until 2008. I can’t make a main character that I like. I can’t think of supporting characters that I like. I can’t think of an ending, a beginning, or any conflict. I can’t even write the part where everything is revealed, because I don’t know who it’s…
