    Video Game Memories #16: Blood

Blood (1997) Seriously, what do I need to say about Blood. This game’s been in my life for ten years. It introduced me to Evil Dead. I’ve written almost 200,000 words of collective fiction in this universe. I’m so immersed, that I’m mentioned on the Wikipedia page for it (it’s true, check it out!). Well, for starters most things I have to say about this game can be found in my interview from the Blood Wiki. There you can see how I discovered Blood, my role in the Blood Community, and the relation between the Blood Universe and my fan fiction. One of the things I forgot to mention in…

  • The Blood 2 Wordle

For those who care, here is the Blood 2 Wordle. When I did this for the previous draft, the word “just” was just as big as Avery (I like the positioning of that word). I’ve got no compunctions about like being the size it is, since a lot of the people talk like teenagers, but I might eliminate more than usual in my next stories.

  • Blood 2 Now Available

You’ve heard me talk about it – now go read it. Blood 2: The Unforgiven is now available in either serial format on FanFiction.net, or you can read the whole thing from the Blood Wiki. See the 1/8th of the iceberg for the 7/8 of work I put into it. I’ve been debating about whether to update my personal Blood website with the story. I’ve already got the stories on the file system, I just need to edit the HTML to include the links. It wouldn’t be too much effort to do that, but I don’t want to make it a big involved thing like Blood: ILA was. That had…

  • Blood 2 is Done, Now What?

So now it’s back to the real world of writing – where nothing is even close to being finished and you’ve got a mountainous queue of stories waiting to be written, like ghosts that only you can see, and they all want something different. I stepped into Black Hole Son today to make some small changes that I thought of yesterday. This reminded me that it’s 321 pages. The story I just worked on so arduously stayed around 210 pages. This is 50% longer. True, it’s in first draft form, but I’m having trouble thinking of stuff I can cut. With Blood 2, it was easy. I could have cut…

  • Blood 2: The Unforgiven – Finished

Pages: 210 (at 12 pt. font)Words: 116,223 As of September 9, 6:56 PM CDT, I declare Blood 2: The Unforgiven, complete and done with. Now I’ve just gotta figure out when I’m going to release it. I’ve already got some files uploaded to FF.net, and according to their reader statistics, I get a lot of hits in the middle of the week – Wed, Thurs, etc. Lord knows why – maybe that’s when the boredom of teenagers sets in and they start wandering around the Internet, looking for something to do. Well, I’m hoping this is the last entry I do for Blood 2, unless it’s to talk about the…

  • Blood 2: The Unforgiven – Complete

I just wanted to drop a note here, for posterity, and say that I got done with Blood 2 last night. All I need to do is type my corrections in, do a massive spell-check, and split it into multiple formats. But the hard work is done, now I get to do the fun administrative stuff.

  • My Token Update and a Rant on Scalzi

I haven’t posted here for a while, but something really got my goat today. But first, an update. As you’ve no doubt guess, I’ve been trying to focus on my fiction, meaning back-burner blog for breakfast. It lost my interest for the moment, as everything else I’ve been doing has been going well. I feel like I’m in a rhythm on my writing where there are fewer blocks. To date, I’ve finished the first draft of my short stories, gotten up to version 2 on Black Hole Son, sent Avatar in for a second critique, finished cataloguing possible places to send my short stories. Right now I’m working the final…

  • Blood 2 Draft 2 Complete! Get Shine!

I’m very pleased to announce that I’m finished on the second draft of Blood 2: The Unforgiven. I finally got to blitz it on Sunday night and finish putting in revisions, changing names, and looking for cliches. What’s the next step? Well, first I print it out. I think I’ll use my home printer this time, as it’s still too early to be exploiting work for this. Then I’ll give it one more revision, just to make sure there aren’t any artifacts left over. Sort of a dress rehearsal to make sure everyone’s playing the part right. If I was publishing this, I might spend more than two revisions on…

  • Status Again

And here’s where my status is again. I got a rejection from Realms of Fantasy, earlier than expected. Next up is Weird Tales. After that, I don’t really know where I’m going to submit it, but I feel like now I should start looking at the smaller magazines, so I don’t waste my time (and stamps). I’m still inputting revisions for Blood 2 into the main document. It’s taking forever, for many reasons. Mostly because I hate working on it. I’ve grown to hate the story because its so juvenile. The characters are whiny and plodding. The events I’ve grown accustomed to. The plot meanders, and I see so many…

  • Back to Life

Well, let’s recap what’s happened since January 12. I lost my job. You’d think that means I have more time for writing, but with a newborn, that tends to be on the backburner. I need to keep steady on my job search, so that means spending just about as much time searching for one as working at one. By the way, Claire Katherine is doing fine and dandy, though she seems grumpy all the time, but hopefully that’ll pass. Her favorite story is “Ten Apples Up On Top”. I’ve finished revising Blood 2. I think there’s going to be a drastic reduction in the amount of words and it’ll be…
