I haven’t really talked about where I am with writing (I haven’t really talked about anything for a while because I’ve been obsessed with Board Game Arena), but as the end of the year is coming, I’m pondering what I’ve accomplished this year. I only get 60-80.
Well, unfortunately, nothing became ready for publishing this year (at least I’m not expecting it to). Most of January was spent wrapping up the short stories. I worked on Millia/Naga Story for a long time. More than half the year. And that was because I got feedback from a professional editor. Well, at least I think she was professional. I paid her. That makes her professional, right? And thank god, she gave me some useful information. At least, I hope it’s useful. I can’t really consider it useful unless it gets me an acceptance. Helpful? I think it improved the story at least.
So yeah, I spent about seven months on that. And in between, there were a few breaks where I cleaned up the short stories, picked the ones I thought were best and wanted to send out, and have been sending them out. That gives me twenty pieces to submit. And it’s not any more fun than it used to be. I will definitely say these aren’t burning down the barns of these publishers. I didn’t suddenly turn into James Joyce. But the acceptance rate is higher than before.
But besides, I was hoping that I could get something out into the world this year, but neither Millia nor Superhero Make-a-Wish is ready for prime time. I won’t even be finished with the third draft by the end of the year, let alone any final drafts. But that doesn’t seem to be happening. Some of these chapters/scenes are taking me days to get through. Sometimes, I just get through a page. Yet we bore on, winds at our backs, or something.
